Tabley Hill Solar Farm
Tabley Hill Solar Farm is located near Knutsford, close to Junction 19 of the M6.
At a time when the UK needs to strengthen its energy security, the proposals have been developed to increase the supply of domestically produced electricity, while being carefully designed to respond to the surrounding landscape and local area.
A parameters plan shows where the solar development could be located. These areas have been identified as being suitable for solar development, however, not all the land shown would be required for solar. The remaining area would either be used for habitat improvement or remain in agricultural use. We are seeking views from a range of technical consultees for which areas of the site would be more suitable for solar development and welcome your views on this as part of the consultation process.

The proposals include:
A 20MW solar farm to generate renewable electricity
Underground cabling to connect the site to the electricity grid, with no permanent visual impact
Landscaping and planting to help screen views and integrate the scheme into the surrounding area
Habitat improvements designed to leave the site better for wildlife than it is today
Retention and improvement of Swains Walk Public Right of Way
A Community Benefit Fund providing around £8,000 per year to support local projects
Why this site?
This site has been identified as suitable for solar because it includes available land capable of accommodating a scheme of this scale and is in close proximity to an existing grid connection.
How does this help Cheshire East’s carbon neutral plans?
The Council has set a target to deliver 447MW of large-scale solar by 2030 as part of its wider ambition to become carbon neutral by 2045. This scheme would make a meaningful contribution towards that target.
